Welcome to Reorg 2025!

Every four years, Kentucky Democrats gather to organize and re-build our all volunteer efforts to promote democracy, economic justice, and build out a strong support team for our Democratic candidates across Lexington and the entire state.

Reorg is where we elect the leadership of the Fayette County Democratic Party (FCDP), and build out its Executive Committee. During this process we also elect delegates to the State Convention.

Reorg will take place on April 26 at Tates Creek High School at 10:00 AM (Doors open at 8:30AM). Sign up below for details.

Who can participate in Reorg?
Any registered Democratic voter in Lexington/Fayette County can participate in Reorg for the Fayette County Democratic Party. You can check your voter registration status here: https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic/Default.aspx

Do I have to register with FCDP to participate?
Yes, registration is required to participate. You may register online until April 24 at noon. Same day registration on April 26 in person is permitted, but the proceedings will begin promptly. Once the proceedings begin, no new registrations are permitted. Do yourself a favor and register early.

What happens at Reorg?
You will meet some of the activists and leaders of Democratic and Progressive political work in Lexington. At its core, it’s an opportunity for neighbors to meet each other, and create opportunities for progress.

The main “business” of the day is to elect the Executive Committee of the FCDP, and to select delegates to go to the State Convention. If you want to get involved at this level, please read on!

What does the FCDP Executive Committee do?
This committee is like a “Board of Directors” for the FCDP. It sets the budget, develops programming and voter contact efforts, and recruits candidates to run for office. It staffs events, and works on fundraising. Committee members should plan to spend about 10 hours a month on FCDP business, including our monthly meeting on the second Thursday of the month.

The Executive Committee is made up of Legislative District (LD) Chairs and Vice Chairs, and At-Large members. LDs represent the Legislative Districts in which they reside and vote. (LDs are another term for House District.)

How is leadership elected at Reorg?
Registered participants meet together on the morning of April 26 at the County Convention site.

ORGANIZING PRECINCT COMMITTEES: All registered participants may vote in the selection of their Precinct Committee. First, participants will gather with other members of their Precincts and select amongst those running for the following offices: Precinct Committee Male, Precinct Committee Female, and Precinct Committee Youth (under 40).

CHOOSING LD CHAIR/VICE-CHAIRS: Then, the newly formed Precinct Committees inside a Legislative District vote on Legislative District Chair and Legislative District Vice Chair. Only the precincts that constitute the Legislative District may vote for those positions.

CHOOSING THE CHAIR/VICE-CHAIR OF FCDP: Finally, the Legislative District Chairs and Vice Chairs vote on two of the Officers of the Fayette County Democratic Executive Committee (Chair, Vice Chair). The Chair will appoint the Secretary and Treasurer. The Chair and Vice Chair must be of opposite genders. To fill out the remainder of the Executive Committee, At-Large members will be selected by the full Executive Committee at the first meeting in May. Let your Legislative District Chair know if you’re interested in being considered for this role!

What is a Precinct? What is a Legislative District?
Precinct is the smallest geographic division of the map for voting purposes. Multiple adjoining precincts make up a Legislative District (LD). LDs are sometimes also called House Districts. As a Lexington voter, you live in a precinct, and your precinct is a part of a Legislative or House District.

When you register for Reorg, you will need to know your Precinct and your Legislative/House District. You can find that here: https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic/Default.aspx

Where is the convention site?
We welcome you to join in person at Tates Creek High School at 9AM.

What about the State Convention?
The convention of the Kentucky Democratic Party will take place in Owensboro on June 14, and we will elect delegates to attend this convention at the April 26 County Convention. The primary “business” of the State Convention is the election of the State Central Executive Committee. Please go to https://www.kydemocrats.org/ for more information.

Lexington can send 111 delegates and 22 alternates, with the following distribution across Legislative Districts.

LD 39: 5 Delegates, 1 Alternate
LD 45: 16 Delegates, 3 Alternates
LD 73: 3 Delegates, 1 Alternate
LD 75: 13 Delegates, 3 Alternates
LD 76: 17 Delegates, 3 Alternates
LD 77: 16 Delegates, 3 Alternates
LD 79: 15 Delegates, 3 Alternates
LD 88: 11 Delegates, 2 Alternates
LD 93: 15 Delegates, 3 Alternates

The newly elected Executive Committee (comprised of LD Chairs and Vice Chairs) will vote to select the Delegates to the State Convention.

What about Gender and Youth Representation?
The Kentucky Democratic Party requires that each local county committee have equal representation between male and female identifying members in the Executive Committee. Separately, each Precinct Committee elects one Precinct Man, Precinct Woman, and Precinct Youth (40 or under).

Where can I learn more about this process?
The Kentucky Democratic Party governs this process through its Bylaws. Please visit their website to learn more. The Fayette County Democratic Party will host an online training session as well for all interested parties. Please sign up here.
